Turning towards difficult feelings
Our brain has automatic shortcuts to help us to dampen or escape difficult emotions. This can be really effective and protective, but the shortcuts can become too habitual making it hard to intentionally lean into and make space for difficult feelings.
Emotional suppression and avoidance is not a good long term strategy. It impacts on our health on our mental health and it reduces our confidence in our ability to weather the storms of life.
We are seldom taught how to lean into emotions. This audio is a gentle guided first step. If you feel particularly fearful or resistant to being with difficult feelings, perhaps try it out when the distress or difficult feelings aren't at their highest. You might start with something like bordem or agitation.
